What We Do
We got our start in 2015 advocating for a plastic bag ban in Crested Butte. Over the last 5 years we have grown to be a comprehensive sustainability organization in one of the hardest places in the country to live sustainably.
In our first five years, we diverted over 70,000 pieces of single-use waste through our Waste-Free Events program, implemented community-driven solutions to tackle the issues of single-use plastic bags and single-use plastic straws, helped draft Crested Butte’s ambitious Climate Action Plan, and partnered with the town of Crested Butte to install water bottle filling stations on Elk Avenue.
Now we are tackling some of our bigger dreams. We are forging partnerships with the Crested Butte Community School and Western Colorado University. We want to support the building of an industrial composting and hard-to-recycle materials facility in the Gunnison Valley and have implemented a few bridge solutions to deal with some of our waste until the big institutions in the Valley can come together on building that facility. We are growing our Waste-Free Events program to support event organizers in completely eliminating waste from special events.
None of this would be possible without ongoing support in the form of donations and volunteers. Please join us on our mission of building a waste-free future in the Gunnison Valley.
