Did you know the EPA estimates that less than 30% of plastic bottles were recycled in 2018? Rather than take a chance that your plastic water bottle won’t be recycled, the best thing you can do to be the change is to bring your own water bottle with you and fill it as needed.
In the last few years, we’ve made staying hydrated on the go in downtown Crested Butte much easier. We partnered with the Town to install two water bottle filling stations, one on each end of the business district on Elk Avenue. While people could use sinks in town, studies show that people are far more likely to use water bottle filling stations than either drinking fountains or faucets to refill their reusable water bottles. Our stations are located in the bus stop at the 4-way and at the other end of Elk Avenue in the bus stop at Old Town Hall. |
More Water Bottle Stations
Our first two water bottle stations were only the beginning. Two of our former interns are Crested Butte Community School students and they have proposed a project to upgrade the water fountains at the school. We are supporting them as they work to install water bottle filling stations at the school campus.
If you have an idea for a place in the Gunnison Valley that needs a water bottle filling station, let us know. We’re always happy to partner with organizations or individuals to be the change.
If you are an event organizer, check out our Waste-Free Events toolkit for information on how to add temporary water bottle filling stations to your event plan.
